The Chromebook weights about 3.05 pounds. Hardly back breaking, but more than the 1.5 pounds of the typical tablet. But for that extra weight, students get a full sized keyboard and an 11.6 inch screen. Battery power is also a concern, and the Chromebook is touted to have a battery life of about 3.5 hours. That is significantly less than found on tablets, which typically are about 8-9 hours. Plugging in can be a nuisance. Tablet PC's were originally (and 95% of them still are) aimed for the traveling business man. They are supposedly a great replacement for a notepad, you can bring it with you where ever you go without having a bulky looking laptop on your lap. The argument for a tablet PC in the office is that taking notes (during a meeting for example) becomes so much easier. However you need to consider if writing on a screen is really that much of an improvement over writing in a notebook and typing it in Word later. I'm not a business man, but I'd be inclined to say no. The Asus T300 tablet is a solid, fairly inexpensive model that can meet the needs of most users. While the unit is aimed at middle of the road tablet users, it can hold its own with most Android Apps. The support for up to date Android OS versions is a major plus for future upgrades. The ability to add more memory and to enhance the tablet with a keyboard helps the tablet standout in crowded market. On the other hand, lack of a wide range of tablet compatible Android Apps can be a problem. Fortunately more developers are creating apps with tablets in mind. All I ask with anyone who has an Apple iPad is that you don’t sit there tapping away on it and then smugly look back at me on my laptop and smirk and say “Oh have you seen my iPad?†No sir I haven’t seen you sitting there like a tool as you swipe your finger along your screen and then I saw you reading the New York Times on your iPad. Of course I was watching you fiddle with that iPad and then I dreamt of ways I would hit you with a chair and then take your iPad and fiddle with it myself. Those who prefer laptops will point to the fact that this device comes with a full keyboard, a very high resolution and can have a screen the size of any desktop computer monitor. The laptop hardware comes included and not dealing with typing on a touch screen is considered a huge benefit to laptop users. Laptops are considered more durable and unlike a tablet , their users do not have to be concerned with scratching the viewing screen. One of the drawbacks when it comes to the portability of a laptop may be its size. The average laptop can weigh between 3 and 9 pounds. One Laptop Per Child Foundation To Focus On Tablet PCs
